Dr. Dixie Mayes received her undergraduate degree from Amarillo Junior College and her optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating, she practiced for one year in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She moved to Hobbs in 1948 with her husband Dr. D.L. Mayes and they went into practice with Dr. Davis for 10 years. In 1958 they moved to 321 S. Ship where they practiced for thirty years. In July of 1988 they moved to their present location 723 N. Turner. She has served on the New Mexico Board of Examiners for six years. During her term she acted as president of the board. In order to serve on this board you must be appointed by the Governor of New Mexico.

Dr. James Mayes attended New Mexico Junior College for two years, and then transfered to The University of New Mexico. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from UNM in 1975. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1979. He joined the practice in Hobbs immediately after graduating. He has been very active in the New Mexico Optometric Association. He served as the state president in 1988-1989.

Dr. Daniel Mayes, a Hobbs High graduate, attended the University of Texas of the Permian Basin where he majored in biology and was the goalie for the unversity's soccer team. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University in 2009. Upon graduating, he returned to Hobbs and began practicing at Drs. Mayes and Mayes in 2010.
Dr. Daniel is the current acting Southeast Area Director for the New Mexico Optometric Association and he was the recipient of the 2011 Young Optometrist of the Year for New Mexico award. |
